The actual decision

Vietnam and Thailand are not connected by a border.

The original idea was to travel freely overland all the way from Vietnam to Thailand. In reality, that route goes through Cambodia: another visa, border timing, and more careful planning.

That makes a direct Hanoi → Bangkok flight the simple default. Cambodia can still be a brilliant optional adventure—just better added deliberately.

After the northern motorbike trip, fly Hanoi straight to Bangkok. Cheapest, cleanest, and maximum time for eating, swimming, and wandering.
